Hi there,
For those of you who want to design a poster to celebrate Earth Day on April 22, here's a couple of websites that you might find interesting.

http://www.earthday.net/earthday2010

Also, I'd like to tell you that we're celebrating the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. You poster can be about it! If you're still undecided on what you want to say in your poster, here's some ideas:

_ Promote an organization/institute/ that protects the environment
_ Increase awareness about endangered species
_ Promote the preservation of the air/ground/water
_ Direct your concept to a specific audience (artists, designers, drivers, housewives, etc) bringing awareness to environment issue they might deal everyday
_ Promote a greener mindset in the school, office, etc (no bottled water, plastic utensils, energy or waste)
_ Promote carpooling

Anyway, the list is endless, but in the end, you can chose the content of your poster.

We can talk about them in the class and the final submission day is Monday, April 20th.

Typography

Hey guys,

I'm writing you this post to call your attention once again to the importance of good typography in your work. By typography I mean not only the typeface you choose, but how you're going to lay it out, create hierarchy, texture and visual interest.

Typography is as important in graphic design as images.

Some of you have been neglecting typography and adding the copy in the last minute, as if it wasn't an important part of the design. However, let me tell you that for all who are doing this, it shows. Whoever has a trained eye can see when type/copy/text has been ignored in the design. Yes, it is that simple. The lack of work regarding typography makes your design poorer and your grade lower.

It's hard to accept that with so many good resources (the web, books, our blog, etc) one can still neglect type.

It's even harder to accept that this happens when you're considering a career in graphic design.

If you want to be a designer, well, a good one, you must understand the importance of type and let it show in your work. People need to see that you spent a good amount of time working with the body copy, headlines, call outs, etc.

Have fun with typography, treat type as an "image", because, after all, it is indeed another visual element of your layout, whether you agree with it or not.

That being said, let the two final projects we have be exuberant when it comes to type. Do not conform yourself with anything less than something GREAT!

I know each one of you can do it! So... let's get back to work!
